fall activities
Fall is the perfect season for fun. The cool breezes, the bluest of blue skies, the brilliant spectacle of changing colors, the floating and swirling of falling leaves — all make the season very special. Then there are the cozy sweaters, hot chocolate, fireside pastimes, anticipation of the holidays and just a million other great reasons to enjoy the fall season.

Here's a fall to-do list for our residents at Greenwood Plaza in Centennial CO who are always up for some new ideas for fun activities. Take a look at some low- or no-cost fun fall things to enjoy:

Fun Fall Activities to Do This Year

1. Start a Pumpkin Tradition.

Buy a big pumpkin to accent your entry access, patio or deck. Marvel at the wonder of nature in the majesty of the lone pumpkin. Or buy a smaller pumpkin, and get creative by grouping it with some colorful gourds or grapevines. You can also add fall foliage in a planter or pail. Go all out by visiting a pumpkin patch to buy your pumpkin.

2. Create Special Fall-Themed Beverages.

Make some hot chocolate with marshmallows or hot tea with peppermint sticks. Heat up some apple cider and curl up with a good book. Pick a great eggnog recipe and make your own, or buy some at your favorite supermarket.

3. Make Some Seasonal Snacks.

Bake gingerbread cookies, make s'mores or create your own caramel apples. Or try roasting pumpkin seeds, making apple butter or baking a pumpkin pie. Find your favorite fall-time snack recipes and create a delicious treat.

4. Get Outdoors.

Make a picnic and head for a park. Or put a sandwich and an apple in your daypack, and hike a loop trail. Or just get out on the lawn and play in the leaves. (Refresher on how to play in leaves, for adults: Rake leaves into a pile, jump in and roll around.) Relax by a campfire — and don't forget the marshmallows.

5. Decorate Some Tabletops.

Fill kitchen bowls and trays with fall foliage, pine cones, acorns, dried flowers and twigs. Paint some of these in various fall colors for exciting seasonal accent pieces. Add some colorful leaves.

6. Drive Through the Countryside to View the Fall Foliage.

Put on some comfy car clothes and go for an afternoon drive — or even an overnighter to meander through a beautiful rural area known for its spectacular fall colors.

7. Volunteer for a Good Cause.

Sign up at a local soup kitchen. Participate in a holiday canned food collection drive. Or organize a drive in your community or at work, such as a toy, coat or blanket collection.
